It has been a while since I have done one of the Sunday Fireside’s, so I may be a little rusty. Yet again, it seems I start off every single one of these with the disclaimer that it has been a while, so maybe I should start calling these Monthly Firesides… Or Once-in-Awhile-Sides… Anyways, on with the thoughts of a Kyle.
This week, New Zealand returned to mostly normal when Level 2 became Level 2 Lite. And when it gets further reduced to Level 1, I am not sure what else is left to change or open… Everyone moved back into the office, some more grumpily than others, and I even went out both Friday and Saturday night. So welcome to normality I suppose.
Going back to the office happened just as quickly as we left the office, so there was no time for any adjustment. It came as quite a shock to the system I can tell you that. Florescent lights are probably the worst things I have ever encountered. Whoever thought they were a good idea? Anyways, we’re back in the office and being less productive as a result.
Hopefully, all offices around the country start looking at adopting a 2-day work-from-home option at a minimum… I’d love to have Mondays and Fridays as work-from-home days, and I know a lot of my friends would happily swap any day of the week to work from home. And everyone has a different reason for doing so too, which I find really cool.
After going back to the office and having social media going back to the default of “everything is a problem”, I decided I’d had enough. So, I came up with a plan, spoke to Simone to ensure she was onboard with some extra responsibilities, and decided to lock myself out of my social media accounts. I honestly believe that we would not be seeing as much division in this world if it weren’t for social media, and I don’t want to play into that in any way. It’s too easy to forget that there is a person on the other side of the Twitter handle.
On the personal front, even though my body fat has bounced back to around the 10% mark, I have managed to get to a stable 56.5 KG, which I think is where I should probably stay for a while. Any lower and I might get worried. The quest for abs continues! What I have noticed just by being skinnier, is that a few people tell me (without prompting mind you) how they can’t lose weight, or give up food X, or get to the gym every day… I find this facet of human behavior really interesting. It reminds me of all those articles written when Famous Person X lost weight and a lot of people took personal offence to it…
Another idea I have had is to start sharing what little I know about financial investing. It will be on this site, and will talk openly and honestly about money, investments, and end goals. I had this idea during lockdown, and then again when talking to the painters about investing and today was solidified when Simone commented that a lot of people in our social circle don’t really think about money, or financial planning. Not saying I have all the answers, but it would be a safe way to destigmatize money talk amongst friends.
There are so many more thoughts I have after this week, but my body is now demanding the curry I promised it, so those thoughts will have to be their own blog posts.
Have a good week ahead, and if you’re interested in my idea about a money/investment/financial tab on my site, let me know. I’d love to form a little group of investor friends where we can help each other make good decisions with money.
Curry time! I think I’ll have a lamb korma…
