In and Around Melbourne
We awoke on Good Friday and decided very firmly to have the day at home. All that driving and looking at things sure takes a lot out of you. I mean, who knew that looking at so many things could be so tiring! And we also had plans to head out west in the afternoon, to go look at the new church building our that our church was going to take over. Just when we thought we were done looking at things too… But there was going to be food, and it would be a good opportunity to introduce Simone’s folks to our Australian Adopted Family.
Because we’re not very interesting, Maurice decided to explore Melbourne by himself. Off he went. Heading north, armed with his cellphone for photos and GPS, and keys so he could get back into our apartment if we were caught napping. Some of the photos he got gave me serious FOMO that I didn’t join. But looking towards the week of driving we had ahead, it was a wise choice. And the nap we had this day shall be sung about for generations to come!
Roll around to the afternoon, and it was time to head west. The west in Melbourne is much further than anyone expects. And the lack of public transport, makes each foray out west an adventure. How are we getting there? How are we getting home? All questions one has to ask while carless in the city. But find our way there we did. Jimm and Pynqi were gracious hosts as always, and had made a very welcome welcoming party.
The afternoon was spent eating, playing footy and socializing around a lapidated building that was holding much future promise. We managed to get a lift back to the train station and collapsed in a heap upon our return to the apartment.
Tomorrow would be bringing the start of the journey east, and five days of road tripping. I am sure we were all very thankful for the break in travel. Spending a day remembering our spines are not shaped like car seats. And, of course, letting me remind my Xbox that I still knew it existed.
Alas, being in a relaxed and non-holiday mode, I have no photos to show. This is no excuse, merely my reason that this post is travel-photo-less. So instead, have some indiscriminate photos of Melbourne. All taken by yours truly. And not from this time either.
Hey – you get what you get with this blog!
